Exclusive Interview with Little Will

Little Will How did you discover the bluesharp ?
~ Through a friend back in 1999, this guys plays many instruments and I got really impressed when I saw him playing the guitar and harp at the same time.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which bluesharp player would you invite for a jam session?
~ Paul deLay definitely! He's one of the best old school harp players.

What is your favorite blues harp brand / type and tell us why?
~ Hohner, the models I like the most are Marine Band, Special 20, Golden Melody and Crossover. They are very good harps and also have their own unique sound.

What are the most important tips you can give to someone who wants to learn to play the bluesharp?
~ Look for a professional tutor, listen to a lot of blues, study hard, jam with your friends, buy good harps, well I think that's about it.

Tongue blocking or lip pursing, what do you prefer and tell us why.
~ I use both, hahaha. Tongue blocking is good for a more traditional style, while lip pursing works well on fast and modern phrasing.

Give us the 3 most important albums every (beginning) blues harp player must buy.
~ Nine Bellow Zero - Sonny Boy Willianson, Best of Little Walter and Mighty long time - James Cotton

How do you clean your harps?
~ I'm the only person in Latin America certified by Hohner to perform the maintenance of their harmonicas. I usually clean my harps with a piece of cloth and some alcohol.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and...you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Do you make a lot of money playing harp? I say, no.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ This whole tech talk is not really my expertise. Although I know we have some great studios here in Brazil, including the one I recorded my two CD, The Cake Walking Studio.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any "rituals" to calm you nerves?
~ No, I'm very confident on the stage.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career?
~ There are many moments actually, but having played with Steve Baker, Hook Herrera from The Allman Brothers Band, Steve Guyger, R.J. Mischo, Howard Levy, Mitch Kashmar and Joe Filisko just to name a few.
