Exclusive Interview with Jamie Symons

Jamie Symons How did you discover the bluesharp ?
~ I discovered the Blues harp by my father playing all sorts of music featuring harmonica.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which bluesharp player would you invite for a jam session?
~ I would invite Sonny Terry and hopefully he would bring Brownie with him!

What is your favorite blues harp brand / type and tell us why?
~ My favorite blues harp brand would be Seydel Classics for sure!

What are the most important tips you can give to someone who wants to learn to play the bluesharp?
~ Get lessons from the experts either one on one lessons or even Youtube.

Tongue blocking or lip pursing, what do you prefer and tell us why.
~ I use both methods because in my opinion if your only doing one style your only playing half of would you could be playing!

Give us the 3 most important albums every (beginning) blues harp player must buy.
~ 1. Blues harp boogie
2. Any album with little Walter playing.
3. Done with the Devil (Jason Ricci)

How do you clean your harps?
~ Boiling water and a toothbrush after dismantling them.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and...you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Do you ever share your Harps?
Definitely not!

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ The best recording room would be a relaxed atmosphere open room for live recording.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any "rituals" to calm you nerves?
~ If I ever get nervous before playing live I find going out and chatting with a few people out in the crowd before playing helps a lot, if that's not posible I find that a bit of a warm up playing harp helps shake the nerves.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career?
~ For me it was winning the Hohner Golden Harmonica Championships for the 3rd time Super stoked! Then becoming a Seydel endorsee!!
